Month Two:Of Course I'll Snuggle You!

Month two has been full of snuggles and struggles. Why? Because being a baby is so hard! This picture can depict the justification for all of it though- she's pretty darn cute.
You can also see in this picture that her eyes are at a slate-green.

Before we go over the past month's occurrences, we wanted to share two little habits that Bridget has/had before she loses them. The first is little snorts. She makes them when she's upset and crying. Over the past month, she hasn't done it quite as often.

The second habit that still continues is showing frustration in the form of grunts. This only occurs for the binky. It's a way of her telling us, "Why didn't you think of giving me the binky earlier?? You guys can be so slow!" Quite often though, she will spit out her binky, and get mad at us for not retrieving it quicker.

To celebrate her official one month, we wanted to take her to the pool, but it was raining that day (as it does every Thursday for the past few weeks). So we waited a few days and took her to the beach instead. As you can see, she was pretty excited.

At the first beach we went to, it started raining and wouldn't let up after 10 minutes even though we could see sunshine just to the side of the clouds. So we decided to check out the beach just down our road instead. Little Britches fell asleep on the way over to Lance Aux Epines beach.

Upon arrival, she was very upset. She just was not having any of it until she was fed.

Bear was trying to support to her as best he could.

The water was cold from the rainy days we had been having. So when Tony put her a little in the water she became mad again. By the way, do you like how big that hat is? It's a one-year-old hat, but it looks massive on her. Overall, it wasn't a good beach day, but it was good for pictures.

Now you may be wondering why this month was full of "snuggles." Well we have found out that Biddy sleeps much better when she's being cuddled. And sometimes, if we're really lucky, she will not sleep at all unless she is being cuddled. I'm a really light sleeper, so when I try to snuggle her, any little movement she makes wakes me up. Luckily for me Tony is a snuggler anyway and she doesn't wake him! In the night, when she starts fussing, I can hear her moving and hitting the bed, so I can go heat her a bottle while he pacifies her. The system has worked really well so far.

She wanted to sleep like this and only like this for over half an hour...
This is actually a funny story. I had had my hand on her head trying to calm her and keep her sleeping while I finished pumping. She was beginning to wake up and turned her face into my palm and kept nuzzling my palm until she fell asleep again with her face entirely enveloped in my hand. I had a picture of it, but to prevent accusations of trying to smother my child, I deleted it.
Pirate eye! She knows when you're trying to put her down... She always knows....
Another funny story: Tony and I were Skyping my parents when  Bridget was super upset and screaming bloody murder. We tried everything to calm her: she didn't want to be held, she didn't want to be swaddled, she didn't want to lay down, she didn't want her bottle, he didn't want anything.  Finally Tony took her into our second bedroom where we had just put some clean laundry. While trying to turn on the A/C, Tony placed her on the clothes and in the time it took for him to step on the bed and flip the A/C switch, she had fallen asleep. Since then we've learned she loves warm, clean laundry and will just sit there or fall asleep for long periods of time.

Oh the sleeping positions....
Favorite positions: On her side with a pillow behind her (when a parent is not available) or on her tummy.

Now it looks like she sleeps a lot, but she definitely doesn't. There was even a day where she took only 4 naps between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. The first nap was 45 minutes long and the following three naps only lasted 10 minutes each. That was a very long day. Typically, she's awake for about 2-3 hours at a time and will nap for about an hour... give or take on that. While she's awake she loves, and demands, to be entertained.

She loves looking and batting at toys.
She has even grabbed onto toys multiple times!

Dancing is a favorite past-time between her and Daddy. These videos were taken on three separate occasions. She has a reaction that is consistent no matter how many times she dances.

Can you find the habit that makes us smile?

That's right; She will always conclude her dances with her own leg kick(s).

She also participates in tummy time. She hates this with a burning passion but has become a little more used to the idea that she can actually do things while she's on her tummy. She consistently lifts her head and will roll onto her back as fast as possible when she just isn't "in the mood" for tummy time. Her fastest time yet was 5 seconds.

Her personal favorite past-time is reading books. We have read about 30 books together. She stares at the pictures and will track your fingers when you point out letters or numbers. It's hard to read to someone when they can't sit up though, so the reader will usually have to stop after half an hour due to back/arm problems.

Over this past month Biddy has been becoming more adept at smiling and mimicking faces. She's really good at sticking her tongue out too.

Adore the fabulous Grinch hair!

Funny story time:
After her bath, Bridget is placed on her changing pad and dried off, powdered, and put into a diaper. Tony had decided to start dancing with her after drying her off while I was putting things away. All of the sudden I hear this "Whoa, Baby!" She had power-peed onto his shirt, completely missing the changing pad. You can't really see it, but he has a line going up and down the front of him. Routine, Daddy. Routine.

Now this is Tony's parenting fail moment. He was watching Bridget while I went to the grocery store. He put her in her swing with the pillows on the side of her head like always, and began studying. After a little while, he looked over at her and found this. She was folded in half, toes were on the other side of her head. He felt really bad, but she was obviously okay with it.

Overall, Biddy is growing up really fast. She is super strong, is gaining weight, and is gaining more dexterity everyday. Over this next month, since Tony has it off, he wants to work with her on sitting up (I think his back is more affected by reading time than mine). I wouldn't be surprised if she can do it by then. I, on the other hand, am going to begin working on sign language with her. Even the rough hand movements she does will be good enough to tell me "hungry." I am getting better at reading her though! I cannot differentiate all of her cries, but I know which one is her tired cry. I think the hardest to differentiate is her food vs. binky cry, but we're getting there.

Month One in Review

Happy one month, baby girl!

Fun facts:
Favorite parent: Dad.

Mom has had a difficult time breastfeeding, but has been pumping since the first week. A post will be made on this issue!

When she is awake, she will usually stay awake for 2 hours.

Despite being awake for such long periods of time, she has everyone around here fooled; she will stay asleep on nearly all of our outings. She has most people believing she is the perfect baby. Pretty close, but don't let those neck rolls fool you!

She can consistently sleep 5 consecutive hours at night.

Her favorite sleeping position is on her tummy.

She has completely flipped (back to tummy AND tummy to back) twice with multiple individual flips as well.

Her eyes are changing. What started as a blue steel has now become an emerald with a yellowish ring in the middle. No matter how much I try, I can't get it to show in photographs.

She is losing a bit of her hair in the front thus giving her a receding hairline and has developed a monk-style circle. Don't worry, she still has quite a bit of hair.

She has gained 2 ounces since birth- YAY! At least we're up! She has also grown 3 inches!

I have to cut her fingernails at least twice a week.

She had her first pedicure at three weeks. She chose the color royal blue.

She has the funniest, yet cutest gassy smiles.

Her biggest public debut was the SGU Halloween celebration. Of course, she slept the whole time.

In case you can't tell, she's a cutie clementine.

This picture was featured on SGU's site!

She loves sleeping in her bouncer and swing. This works out really well for when Dad wants to watch her for a bit. She lets him study!

She has been a good baby so far. The first month was difficult, just because it's a big adjustment. However, we're so excited for Little Britches to become more independent, active (although I can't imagine how she could be), and adorable. We love you!
