Nearly a Weeks Worth of Adventures

August 4, 2014
Today we went to the pool like we do on Mondays at the University Club. It was nice and warm, so we were able to keep cool in the water and visit with the other people there. When Cherish got done swimming she laid out on the chair to get some sun and I decided to go check out the beach. I snorkeled in the water for a bit and then decided to walk over on the dock where a S.O. named Mark was looking around with his kids and Nicole's kids. When I got over there they told me they had found a bunch of Hermit crabs living in Conch shells there. I started looking around for some cool Conch shells to take home when I heard the boys yelling that they had found an octopus. I went over to see and sure enough, they had trapped on in a cinder-block box. Mark came over and helped pry some rocks out of the box to loosen the octopus's grip and the boys fished out 4 Zebra fish that had also been stuck inside. Eventually the octopus bailed out of the box inking all over Mark as it fled. It was awesome!! With that I collected my shells and headed to meet up with Cher, Ryan and Dorothy to go home.

Today we told Ryan we would take him to the Secret Beach to see it. I was pretty excited, but Cher was less enthused and decided to stay home while Dorothy, Ryan and I went. When we got there the waves were significantly worse than they had ever been before. They would reach about 8' swells before crashing into the shore. Because of this we obviously decided to snorkel around and take our chances. It actually ended up being a lot of fun. The big waves really tested your ability to blow sea water out of your snorkel. The fish were a little bit harder to see, but still there for the most part. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if Cherish had been there.

Today we were invited to see another beach here on the island. It goes by a number of names: BBC Beach, BBS Beach and Mourne Rouge Beach. We went with a bunch of people from the branch. They decided to go in the morning which was the first time we ever went out before 2pm. The beach was nice. There were quite a few trees and the water was pretty calm. There were a lot more sea urchins there then I have seen anywhere else, but they weren't close enough to cause any problems to those walking in the shallows. Bear even got brave enough to walk into the water up to his neck a few times. After we finished swimming around we went to the beach to dry off, talk and soak up some sun. I decided to try to build a sand castle... turns out I suck at it. I was able to enlist Britni and Adam's son as slave labor for my project though. He is 18 months old and I got him to repeatedly bring water from the ocean up to my castle to help soften the sand. He continued doing this FOREVER. Even after I gave up on the project he continued to walk up and down the beach pouring water into my moat. By the time we left my back, Ryan's back and Cherish's shoulder were all sore. We got our first sunburns! They hurt pretty good, but have since tanned up pretty well.

Yesterday it rained ALL day. It sucked, but it gave us a lazy day to recover from our burns. Today we went into downtown St. George's to get some stuff and to show Ryan around. We bought some fruit and some fish. The fish we got was from the fish market where they sell u the whole fish, and then you can pay people to fillet or gut them for you. It was cool and disgusting all at the same time. :) After this we went home and had lunch. Then I had to go to the school to register for classes and get my school ID. We showed up 30 minutes late and ended up paying for it. We had to wait for 1.5 hours in line just to get our pictures taken and then were told to comeback tomorrow to finish the rest and pick up our cards. : P  When I finally got home we got ready to go to dinner with a bunch of people. We went to a place called Victory. It deserves its own post which Cher already wrote.
